Abstract

The medieval night is wrapped in a fear that stems from the lack of safety and the presence of delinquents who often do all kinds of dreamfull deeds. The dark hours are ideal for commiting crimes at the behest of others, for burglary and robbery. Both central power and local government are preoccupied with the insecurity of the urban population. Among other measures, they decree an obligatory curfew. After the stroke of the bell, everyone must head straight home.
